Wuhan University Team Achieved Great Results in Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition

Recently, the 2022 Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition, hosted by the International Institute of Space Law (IISL) and organized by the State University of Brawijaya, Indonesia, came to an end. After the selection of written pleadings and two rounds of court arguments, the Wuhan University team achieved the top four overall rankings, showing the solid foundation of international law and outstanding performance of Wuhan University students in moot court debates on the international stage.

 

 

Our team received strong support from the Wuhan University Undergraduate School, the Law School and the Institute of International Law. The team was guided by Professor Su Jinyuan. Cha Hanhui, a Master's student of Class of 2020, served as the assistant coach and team leader. The Oralist included Luo Yirui, a master's student of Class 2021, Jin Jing and Guo Shufan, undergraduates of Class 2019. The Researcher included Xu Junhan, a master's student of Class 2020, Lin Jiayue and Li Xian, master's students of Class 2021, and Zhang Yahui, undergraduates of Class 2018. This year's competition was titled "Registration and Damage of Space-Made Objects" and covered many cutting-edge issues in the field of outer space law. Since the formation of the team in 2021, the team members have been practicing their legal search and English expression skills. During the preparation period, Professor Huang Jiefang, 2018 PhD student Wang Lingbo, 2017 law school alumnus Chen Jiangnan, and 2020 master's student Ruan Jingcheng provided assistance.

 

 

Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition is an annual, world-class moot court competition founded by the International Institute of Space Law in 1992, and it is one of the highest and most influential moot court competitions in the world. The competition is divided into domestic, regional and global competitions, and the Asia-Pacific region has always been the most competitive of the five regions, with the largest number of teams involved.

 

With the rapidly developing of China's space capabilities, the construction of space "soft" power is also very important. Space Law Moot Court Competition makes more youth students pay attention to the rules of international space law.
