Master Program Students Participate in a Legal Search Training Lecture

On the afternoon of June 16, Ms. Yao Xuefei from the Main Library of Wuhan University and Ms. Ren Yuxin, Product Application Manager of Wolters Kluwer-CCH Group, conducted a wonderful comprehensive training on the use of the library system and legal search for the international students of the Class 2022 of Wuhan University School of Law, in order to better help the them get familiar with the electronic resources and the use of the university library, so as to improve the ability to do legal research and better prepare for academic research and thesis writing.

The first part of the training was conducted by Ms. Yao Xuefei, who gave a comprehensive training on the University Library. Mr. Yao started with an overview of the library and explained in detail the distribution of library resources, opening and closing hours, seat reservation system  and other basic information of the main library and the three branche libraries. and helped international students practice using the library's WeChat Official Account to use the online enquiry and seat reservation services provided by the library. Afterwards, Ms. Yao explained how to find books online and offline, guided the students to locate the target books in the library in steps, and introduced the distribution of the self-service lending machines in the library as well as the loan periods and methods of borrowing and returning different types of books. In addition, focusing on the navigation of electronic databases, Ms. Yao demonstrated the functional partitions and rich electronic resources of the online system of Wuhan University Library, and recommended common databases and their search process around different search topics, including HeinOnline, Westlaw Classic, Lexis, Web of Science, etc., as well as the different ways of accessing literature according to their accessibility.

In the second part, Ms. Ren Yuxin introduced the two databases of Kluwer Law International, Kluwer Law Online Journals and Kluwer Arbitration, through an online presentation. With a direct access to the databases, Ms. Ren explained the search of electronic literature, the amount of resources in the databases, the location of arbitration cases in Kluwer Arbitration and related treaties and documents. She also guided students to enter the database for practical operation exercises. The two teachers' comprehensive, detailed and informative lectures greatly improved the difficulties of international students in using the university library resources due to the language barrier, and helped them to better integrate into campus life and use campus resources for academic research.
