Prof. Zhang Wanhong from Wuhan University participated in the general debate of Topic 6 of the 46th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council via video on March 18, 2021. Prof. Zhang pointed out that the universal periodic review conducted by the United Nations Human Rights Council is a powerful tool to promote the improvement of human rights in all countries. The active participation of responsible countries is essential for the healthy functioning of the international human rights mechanism. Countries should carry out international human rights cooperation on the basis of equality and mutual respect. Prof. Zhang urged the new U.S. government to listen to the views of all parties, change its ways on human rights matters, and effectively put an end to human rights violations such as violent police enforcement and racial discrimination in its country.
