Associate Professor

Liao Yi，Associate Professor of Law，has taught at Wuhan University Law School since 2004，where his courses include jurisprudence，comparative law， law and economics，law and logic，legal profession， judicial reform，comparative legal culture，legal method，legal research and writing. He has been a research student or visiting scholar at School of Law, City University of Hong Kong, Institute of Humanities and Social Science,Taiwan Chengchi University,Universities Service Centre for China Studies,The Chinese university of Hong Kong,Center for Deliberative Democracy,Stanford university,National Academy of Education Administration,Harvard Law School and School of Law,Northeastern University.An expert in legal theory and judicial evaluation , he also writes and comments about human right, political strategy, environmental protection and mass culture for New York Times,CNN,Singapore Zaobao Daily and official paper of the CPC Central Committee,Supreme People’s Court and Supreme Peoples Procuratorate of PRC.

His scholarship focuses on issues of law and development in contemporary China, judicial theory and evaluation, cultural jurisprudence, and legal education. Besides his many scholarly articles published in journals of law, literature and philosophy in China-mainland, USA， Canada, South Korea, Taiwan, Macao, his books include Equilibrium Spiral of Legal Governance in China: Discourse ,Thought and System(2014,forthcoming);A Jurisprudential Gateman:Thought Experiment of Law & Literature(2014);New Essays on Western Jurisprudence: Interpretive Perspective(co-edited, 2010); Legal Profession Morality:Training Demonstration of High Level Legal Talent(2009);A Theory of Judicial Equilibrium:Dual Construction of Jurisprudential Ontology and Chinese Practice(2008); Political civilization and Country Governed by the Rule of Law(co-edited, 2007);A Theory of Judicial Power:Objective Model, Method and Skill of Judicial Power Operation in Contemporary China(co-edited, 2006).

Over the course of his career, he has received numerous academic,teaching and service honors, including the Wuhan University Outstanding Young Scholar Award,Excellent Paper Award of Challenge Cup,Baosteel Education award,Young scholar Award of China Jurisprudence Association ,First Excellent Prizes of Legal Construction and Higher education research in Hubei Province.

He served on the Expert Group of Hubei Provincial Party Committee of CPC and helped to review the Party Regulations since 2013.He is the Council Member of China Jurisprudence Association(2007-),the Secretary General of Jurisprudence Committee ,Hubei Law Society(2006-),Executive Chief-Editor of Development,Human Right & Rule of Law Studies Series(2011-).In addition,he is a research fellow of National 2011 Program Judicial Civilization Collaborative Innovation Center,member of American Law and Society Association,Guardian Global Development Professionals Network,Asia Studies Working Group of Northeastern University in Boston.He has directed research and evaluation projects supported by National Social Science Fund,Ministry of Education and provincial government. In 2013-2014,he was assistant president and judicial committee member of Wuhan Jiangxia District People’s Court.

After completing her undergraduate studies at the Law School of Wuhan University , he received master’s degree in jurisprudence and doctorate in constitutional and administrative law from Wuhan University. He joined the Wuhan University Law faculty as an assistant professor in 2004, was promoted to associate professor in 2009, was named the Luojia Young Scholar in 2010.
