Prof. Dr. Ignacio DE LA RASILLA is the Han Depei Chair in International Law at Wuhan University Institute of International Law. He was educated in Spain (LLB, 5 years – qualifying law degree exempted from bar examination), University Complutense of Madrid); Switzerland (MA and PhD, The Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, Geneva), The United States of America (LLM, Harvard Law School; Fellow in Global Governance, Law and Social Thought, Brown University) and Northern-Italy (Post-Doctoral Max Weber Fellow in Law, European University Institute, Florence).
Prof. Dr. de la Rasilla is the author of two research monographs published by Cambridge University Press (2020) and Brill / Nijhoff (2017). He is the co-editor of three edited volumes published by Cambridge University Press (2019) Brill/Nijhoff (2017) and Thompson Reuters, (2013) respectively and the editor of four international law journal symposia (European Journal of International Law, 2021); Leiden Journal of International Law (2020); African Yearbook of International Law (2012); German Law Journal (2012)). His current research projects include an edited volume with Oxford University Press (‘The Enigma of China and International Law. Historical, Contemporary and Prospective Explorations’) (with 22 chapters) and the invited edition of a homonymous symposium in the Leiden Journal of International Law. He is also preparing a co-edited volume for Cambridge University Press (New Experiments in International Adjudication. Prospective Accounts) (with 12 chapters).
Prof. Dr de la Rasilla has published more than sixty journal law articles and book chapters in international law subjects including in world-leading journals such as the European Journal of International Law (SSCI) International Journal of Constitutional Law (SSCI) Leiden Journal of International Law (SSCI) Law and History Review (SSCI); Human Rights Law Review (SSCI); Journal of the History of International Law (ESCI); International Criminal Law Review; Max Planck Institute's Rechtsgeschichte–Legal History; International Community Law Review; Transnational Legal Theory and many others as well as peer-review book chapters in specialized edited collections published by Cambridge University Press, Oxford University Press, Brill Nijhoff etc. His overall research has been widely cited by specialists worldwide.
Prof. Dr de la Rasilla has been a visiting research fellow of research centres in the United States of America (Harvard Law School’s European Law Centre; Institute of Global Law and Policy at Harvard Law School; Royal College Complutense at Harvard University; The Watson Institute for International Studies at Brown University); the United Kingdom (The Lauterpacht Centre for International Law, Cambridge University); Germany (The Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law in Heidelberg; The Max Planck Institute for European Legal History in Frankfurt); Switzerland (The Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies) and Luxembourg (Max Planck Institute for European and International Procedural Law).
Prof. Dr. de la Rasilla has received research funding for a variety of academic institutions including the British Academy/Leverhulme; the Institute for Global Law and Policy at Harvard Law School; The Max Planck Institute of Public International Law in Heidelberg; Brunel University London; the Spanish Ministry of Innovation and Science; the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness; the Spanish Ministry of Education and the General Secretariat of Universities, Research and Technology of Andalucía’s Regional Government.
Prof. Dr. de la Rasilla has held permanent or visiting teaching positions in American (NYU, La Pietra) British (Brunel University London) and French (Catholic University of Lille) universities teaching a variety of undergrad and graduate courses: public international law; international criminal justice; global governance; international human rights law; comparative counter-terrorism law and human rights; European Union law; African and American systems of human rights; international humanitarian law; public law of the United Kingdom. At the Wuhan University Institute of International Law, he has taught graduate courses on ‘Global Governance and the International Rule of Law’ and ‘International Law and China’.
