Wuhan University Team Won the First WHAC Cup International Commercial Arbitration Moot

On September 16 and 18, 2021, the First WHAC Cup International Commercial Arbitration Moot was held in Wuhan, China, hosted by the Wuhan Arbitration Commission. The competition was divided into university and lawyer categories and used cases from the 28th Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot Competition. The competition was conducted in a combination of written submissions and oral arguments, and English was used throughout.

The WHU team was coached by Associate Professor Qiao Xiongbing from the Wuhan University Institute of International Law, and led by Sun Zhaoqi, a 2019 graduate student, and Li Xi, a 2020 graduate student, with team members including 2020 graduate students Cai Zhiyuan, Wang Huai Min, Wang Jingru and Zhu Wenjie, and 2018 undergraduate student Huang Jingchun. Among them, Wang Huaimin and Wang Jingru performed oral arguments as the team members on the field. After two days of fierce competition, the WHU team won the first class by beating the team from Zhongnan University of Economics and Law in the final, and Wang Jingru was awarded the "Best Debater".

We achieved excellent results in this competition thanks to the great support from the university, school and the Institute of International Law. Facing this competition, the instructors and coaches trained the team members a lot on legal research, literature search and oral presentation, and all of them devoted themselves to the competition. The outstanding performance of the team members in this competition not only fully demonstrated the style of WHU students, but also reflected the achievements of Wuhan University Institute of International Law in cultivating high-end foreign-related legal talents.
