Lecture 1 of Civil Code Forum of Wuhan University –“The Chinese Characteristics, Practice Characteristics and Era Characteristics of the Civil Code” was successfully held

On June 7, the first lecture of Civil Code Forum of Wuhan University, hosted by Wuhan University School of Law, was held.

Prof. Wang Liming, Executive Vice President of People’s University of China, President of the Institute of Civil Law of China Law Society and Deputy Leader of the Civil Code Codification Project Group of China Law Society, opened the lecture on the theme of “The Chinese Characteristics, Practice Characteristics and Era Characteristics of the Civil Code”. The lecture was chaired by Professor Meng Qinguo of Wuhan University School of Law, and delivered by Professor Zhou Yezhong, Vice President of Wuhan University.

At the beginning of the lecture, Prof. Wang thanked Wuhan University School of Law for invitation, and explained the positioning of the Civil Code, the concrete embodiment of the three characteristics and the implementation recommendations.

First pf all, Prof. Wang held that the Civil Code plays an important role in the socialist legal system with Chinese characteristics. He pointed that there are three major innovations in the codification of our Civil Code, as the independent codification of personality right, the independent compilation of tort liability and the function of the general rules of debt law.

Then, Prof. Wang explained the Chinese characteristics, practical characteristics and Era characteristics of our Civil Code from five aspects. First, the Civil Code fully reflects the needs of our society. Second, the Civil Code adapts to the people’s pursuit of a better and happy life. Third, the Civil Code responds to the new demands of the Internet, high-tech, and big data times. Fourth, the Civil Code has also responded to environmental protection and ecological maintenance. Fifth, the Civil Code conforms to the trend of economic globalization.

Prof. Wang put forward some suggestions on the implementation of the Civil Code, including interpreting the Civil Code, making supporting laws and regulations, cleaning up extra laws and regulations, and strengthening the publicity and popularization of the Civil Code

At last, Prof, Meng gave a summry to this lecture, and thanked Prof. Wang once again. The lecture was concluded with warm applause from all the teachers and students.

The Civil Code is the grand code of running the country well and giving the people peace and security. Wuhan University School of Law is committed to publicizing the popularization of the Civil Code, and promoting the implementation of the great strategy of comprehensive rule of law in depth.
