From September 23 to September 25, the 2nd WHAC Cup International Commercial Arbitration Moot Competition was held in Wuhan, hosted by the Wuhan Arbitration Commission. The competition was divided into university and lawyer groups following the cases of the 29th Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot Competition. The competition was conducted in a combination of written and oral formats in English.
Our team was instructed by Associate Professor Qiao Xiongbing from Wuhan University Law School, and coached by Li Sentao and Lin Jidong, graduate students of Wuhan University Law School Class of 2020. The team members included Li Sentao, Lin Jidong, Chen Xinya, Zhang Qingshan and Ye Xiuyuan. Among them, Zhang Qingshan and Ye Xiuyuan were the members for oral arguments. After three days of fierce competition, the Wuhan University team won the 2nd WHAC Cup by beating the teams from Central China Normal University and Zhongnan University of Economics and Law in the elimination round as well as the team from Xiangtan University in the final round. Zhang Qingshan was awarded the "Best Debater".
The achievements were due to the great support from Wuhan University Law School, Wuhan University Academy of International Law and Global Governance and Wuhan University Institute of International Law. The instructor and coaches trained the team members extensively and all of them devoted themselves to the competition. During the preparation period, Luo Xiaoke, 2018 undergraduate student who is now studying at the University of California, Berkeley, as a former Vis Moot team member, still took time out of her busy schedule to give guidance. The outstanding performance of the team members not only fully demonstrated the elegance of Wuhan University students, but also reflected the achievements of Wuhan University Law School and Wuhan University Institute of International Law in cultivating foreign-related legal talents.
