The WHU Team Won the First Prize in the 17th Moot Arbitration Court Debate of International Commercial Arbitration


From November 18 to 22, 2019, the 17th Moot Arbitration Court Debate of International Commercial Arbitration hosted by China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission was held in Beijing. After fierce competition, Wuhan University team won the first prize from 64 teams.

Sponsored by China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission, the Moot Arbitration Court Debate of International Commercial Arbitration was one of the most famous moot court competitions in the world. It was the pre-competition of Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot. The competition attracted Tsinghua University, Peking University, Fudan University, East China University of political science and law, University of international economics and trade and other well-known domestic universities.

Qiao Xiongbing, an associate professor of law school, guided the WHU team, Fan Rui, Li Xi, two students of law school, served as the coach. The team members included Xiong Wenchang, Sun Zhaoqi, Chen Jialin, Zhang Kaifeng, Lu Yihan and Chen Yinuo. After three days of fierce competition, WHU team won the first prize with the fifth place, Chen Jialin and Sun Zhaoqi won the "best debater" and Lu Yihan won the "outstanding contribution award".

The excellent performance of our school team in the competition benefited from the strong support of our university and school. During the preparation period, the previous Vis moot team members from Herbert Smith Freehills, Beijing Tiantong law firm, Northwestern University of the United States and Renmin University of China provided strong support to the team and gave very useful suggestions. The outstanding performance of the team members in this competition fully showed the ability of the students of Wuhan University, and also reflected the achievements of the Law School of Wuhan University in training law talents concerning foreign affairs.
