From October 11 to October 15, 2018, the 1st International Chamber of Commerce International Commercial Mediation Competition - Hong Kong was held in Hong Kong, China. After five rounds of exciting competition, Wuhan University team finally achieved excellent results in the Semi-Finals. This achievement was not only the best in the history of international business mediation events in Wuhan University, but also the best in the history of international business mediation events in mainland universities.
The International Chamber of Commerce International Commercial Mediation Competition was first held by the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris in 2005 and has successfully held thirteen competitions. The International Chamber of Commerce International Commercial Mediation Competition – Hong Kong was an international event organized by the Hongkong Special Administrative Region Government in response to the central government's policy of The Belt & Road Initiative. The competition attracted more than 100 university students, mediators, arbitrators and lawyers from Asia, Europe, America, Oceania and Africa.
In the competition, our team has successively confronted the representatives of West Bengal University of Legal Sciences, Singapore Management University, Indian National University of Legal Sciences and City University of Hong Kong. In the semi-finals, our team was defeated by City University of Hong Kong, the champion team of this competition.
Our college disappointed Qiao Xiongbing, an associate professor of the Institute of International Law, as the mentor. Li Jiankun, a doctoral student of private international law, served as the executive coach. Zhang Guangya served as the team assistant. Fang YiJie, Ma Xiangyu, Zhang Ruimeng, and Duan Qiong were selected to take part in the competition.
In January of this year, president Xi Jinping chaired a meeting of the leading group of the central comprehensive deepening reform, and adopted the opinions on establishing the " The Belt and Road Initiative" international commercial dispute settlement mechanism and institutions. Our college sent a team to participate in the first International Chamber of Commerce International Commercial Mediation Competition-Hong Kong and achieved excellent results, which greatly improved the practical ability of our students in international commercial mediation.
