On June 27, 2020, the ninth lecture of Civil Code Forum of Wuhan University, hosted by Wuhan University School of Law, was held.
The lecture was presented by Prof. Long Weiqiu, Executive Director of the Civil Law Research Institute of China Law Society, Vice President of China Behavior Law Research Association and Dean of Beihang University Law School, on the theme of “The Regulation, Mode and Application Strategy of the Provisions on Personal Information in the Civil Code”. The lecture was moderated by Prof. Feng Guo, Dean of Wuhan University School of Law.
Before the lecture officially began, Dean Feng gave an introduction to the outstanding academic achievements of Prof. Long, and thanked Prof. Long for accepting the invitation to participate in this lecture. Prof. Long talked about three aspects: the regulations of personal information in the Civil Code, the model of personal information provisions in the Civil Code, and the strategies for the application of these provisions.
At first, Prof. Long pointed out that the inclusion of personal information in the Civil Code conforms to the requirements of the all-round development of people in the information age and the rational allocation of resources in the era of data. Next, Prof. Long began to lecture from the following three aspects: First, the regulations of personal information in the Civil Code. Prof. Long held three principles of personal information rules in the Civil Code. Second, the model of personal information provisions in the Civil Code. Prof. Long introduced different views on the introduction of “personal information right”, and analyzed the new personality interest mechanism of “personal information protection”. Last, the strategies for the application of these provisions. Prof. Long pointed out that there is considerable uncertainty on the exercise of personal information rights and infringement protection, and the protection mechanism of single-line law outside the Civil Code is complicated.
In the dialogue session, Prof. Feng Guo and Prof. Zhang Shanbin made comments on the lecture. Prof. Feng considered that this lecture has a wide range of horizons, spanning many fields. Prof. Zhang praised that Prof. Long’s lecture was rich in content and comprehensive in perspective, and thanked Prof. Long again. The lecture was concluded with warm applause from all the teachers and students.
The Civil Code is the grand code of running the country well and giving the people peace and security. Wuhan University School of Law is committed to publicizing the popularization of the Civil Code, and promoting the implementation of the great strategy of comprehensive rule of law in depth.
