On 8 December 2020, Zhou Qiang, Chief Justice of the People's Republic of China and President of the Supreme People's Court, presented an appointment letter to Prof. Xiao Yongping, Director of Wuhan University's Institute of International Law and Director of the Institute of International Rule of Law, appointing him as a member of the International Commercial Expert Committee of the Supreme People's Court.
At the subsequent seminar, Prof. Xiao gave a presentation on "Research and application of International Law in the post-epidemic era". He argued that International law in the post-epidemic era needs to develop in the direction of community international law. China needs to apply international law in an integrated manner, and in this process China's domestic courts play an important and indispensable role.
The Supreme People's Court has appointed 24 domestic and foreign experts, including Prof. Xiao, as members of the second batch of International Commercial Expert Committee. The first batch was appointed in August 2018.
